Description
All the flavor of walking tacos baked into one cheesy, family-friendly casserole. This easy recipe layers seasoned ground beef, tangy salsa, crispy corn chips, and melted cheddar cheese for a satisfying Tex-Mex dish that’s perfect for weeknight dinners or potlucks.
Ingredients
Main Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef or turkey
- 1 packet taco seasoning
- 1 cup salsa
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 2 cups crushed corn chips (Fritos or Doritos)
Toppings
- ½ cup sour cream
- ½ cup diced tomatoes
- 2 green onions, sliced
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Set your oven temperature to 350 °F (175 °C) to prepare for baking the casserole.
- Cook the meat: In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef or turkey thoroughly. Once cooked, drain excess fat to reduce greasiness, then stir in the taco seasoning and salsa until well combined.
- Assemble in baking dish: Lightly grease your baking dish with cooking spray or butter. Spread the seasoned meat mixture evenly across the bottom of the dish.
- Add cheese and chips: Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the meat layer, then top with the crushed corn chips to add a crunchy texture.
- Bake: Place the casserole in the oven and bake for 15 minutes, or until the casserole is bubbly and the cheese has melted completely.
- Garnish and serve: Remove from oven and let cool slightly. Serve individual portions topped with a dollop of sour cream, fresh diced tomatoes, and sliced green onions for added freshness and flavor.
Notes
- For extra volume and nutrition, add black beans or corn to the meat mixture before baking.
