Ingredients
Clams
- 2 pounds fresh clams
Broth & Serving
- 1 cup water
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted
- Lemon wedges, for serving
Instructions
- Clean the clams: Rinse the clams thoroughly under cold running water to remove any sand or debris, scrubbing the shells if necessary to ensure they are clean.
- Prepare to steam: Pour 1 cup of water into a large pot and bring it to a rolling boil over high heat.
- Steam the clams: Add the cleaned clams to the boiling water, immediately cover the pot with a tight-fitting lid to trap steam.
- Cook until shells open: Allow the clams to steam for 5 to 7 minutes, or until most of the clam shells have opened, indicating they are cooked through.
- Serve: Remove the clams from the pot, discarding any that did not open, then arrange them on a serving dish. Serve with the melted butter and lemon wedges, along with some of the flavorful steaming broth for dipping.
Notes
- Discard any clams that do not open after cooking to avoid consuming spoiled seafood.
- Serve the clams with the hot broth for extra flavor and dipping enjoyment.
- Use fresh clams and keep them refrigerated until ready to cook for best taste and safety.
