This recipe combines the robust flavors of browned steak and sautéed mushrooms with perfectly cooked rice in a simple baked casserole that makes an excellent main course for any occasion.
Ingredients
Rice and Broth
- 1 cup uncooked rice (jasmin or basmati recommended)
- 2 cups beef broth
Meat and Vegetables
- 200 g steak, cut into small pieces
- 1 cup mushrooms, sliced
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
Seasonings and Oil
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 190°C (375°F) to prepare for baking the rice casserole evenly.
- Brown the Steak: Heat olive oil in a pan over medium-high heat. Add the steak pieces and cook until nicely browned on all sides. Remove the steak from the pan and set aside while you prepare the vegetables.
- Sauté Vegetables: In the same pan, add the chopped onion, minced garlic, and sliced mushrooms. Sauté these ingredients until they are soft and fragrant, about 4-5 minutes.
- Add Rice: Stir the uncooked rice into the pan with the sautéed vegetables. Cook for 1–2 minutes, allowing the rice to absorb some flavors and lightly toast.
- Assemble for Baking: Transfer the rice and vegetable mixture into a baking dish. Evenly distribute the browned steak pieces on top. Season with paprika, salt, and black pepper for enhanced flavor.
- Add Broth and Cover: Pour the beef broth over the ingredients in the baking dish. Cover the dish tightly with foil to trap moisture for even cooking.
- Bake: Place the covered baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 30–35 minutes, or until the rice is tender and has absorbed the broth.
- Rest and Serve: Remove the dish from the oven and let it rest, covered, for 5 minutes. This allows the rice to absorb any remaining liquid and improves texture before serving.
Notes
- Use jasmine or basmati rice for the best texture and aroma.
- For extra richness, sprinkle cheese on top before baking.
- Let the dish rest after baking to allow the rice to absorb the remaining liquid fully.
