Ingredients
Pizza Base and Cheese
- 1 prepared pizza dough
- 1/2 cup cream cheese
- 1/4 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
Toppings
- 6 oz (170 g) smoked salmon, sliced
- 1/4 small red onion, thinly sliced
- 1 tablespoon capers
- 1 tablespoon fresh dill, chopped
- 1 tablespoon fresh chives, chopped
- 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup arugula (optional)
- Lemon wedges, for serving
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C) to ensure it’s hot enough for a crisp, golden crust.
- Prepare Dough: Roll out the prepared pizza dough on a baking sheet or pizza stone to your desired thickness and shape.
- Spread Cream Cheese: Evenly spread the cream cheese over the entire surface of the rolled dough, creating a creamy base layer for the toppings.
- Add Mozzarella: Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese evenly on top of the cream cheese layer to help add a subtle richness and melt during baking.
- Bake the Pizza: Place the pizza in the preheated oven and bake for 10 to 14 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and crisp to your liking.
- Cool Slightly: Remove the pizza from the oven and allow it to cool for 2 to 3 minutes. This prevents the smoked salmon from cooking when added.
- Add Smoked Salmon: Arrange the sliced smoked salmon evenly across the warm pizza, distributing it so every slice gets a generous portion.
- Add Fresh Toppings: Scatter thin red onion slices, capers, chopped fresh dill, chopped chives, and freshly cracked black pepper evenly over the salmon.
- Drizzle Lemon Juice: Drizzle freshly squeezed lemon juice over the entire pizza to provide a bright, tangy contrast to the smoky fish.
- Add Arugula (Optional): If using, add a handful of fresh arugula on top for a peppery crunch and fresh texture.
- Serve: Slice the pizza and serve immediately with lemon wedges on the side for additional tangy flavor.
Notes
- Do not bake the smoked salmon on the pizza to preserve its delicate texture and smoky flavor; always add it after baking.
- Try adding cucumber ribbons as an extra fresh topping for crunch and flavor contrast.
- For a quicker, simpler version, use naan bread or flatbread as the base instead of pizza dough.
- Mix a little horseradish into the cream cheese before spreading to add a spicy kick.
