Ingredients
Protein and Vegetables
- 1 lb (450 g) ground chicken
- 1/2 small onion, finely diced
- 1 red bell pepper, finely diced
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
- 1/2 cup shredded carrots
- 2 green onions, sliced
- 12 butter lettuce leaves
Sauce and Seasonings
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil (plus 1 teaspoon for sauce)
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons water
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
Instructions
- Prepare the sauce: In a small bowl, combine soy sauce, rice vinegar, honey, 1 teaspoon sesame oil, cornstarch, and water. Stir well until the cornstarch is fully dissolved to create a smooth sauce mixture.
- Cook the chicken: Heat 1 tablespoon sesame oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground chicken and cook for 6 to 8 minutes, breaking it apart with a spatula until fully cooked and no longer pink.
- Add vegetables: Stir in the finely diced onion and red bell pepper and cook for 3 minutes until they begin to soften.
- Add aromatics: Add minced garlic and grated ginger to the skillet and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant, being careful not to burn the garlic.
- Pour in the sauce: Pour the prepared sauce over the chicken and vegetables. Stir well to coat everything evenly.
- Simmer: Cook for 2 to 3 minutes, stirring frequently, until the sauce thickens and clings to the chicken mixture.
- Finish with carrots: Stir the shredded carrots into the skillet to add crunch and color.
- Assemble wraps: Spoon the chicken mixture evenly into the butter lettuce leaves, using them as cups to hold the filling.
- Garnish and serve: Sprinkle sliced green onions and sesame seeds on top of each wrap. Serve immediately for the freshest taste and crunch.
Notes
- Add chopped water chestnuts to the filling for extra crunch and texture.
- Substitute ground turkey instead of chicken for a leaner option.
- Include sriracha or chili flakes in the sauce for a spicy kick.
- Serve with steamed rice if you want a more filling meal.
