Description

A festive twist on a classic dip, this Pumpkin Hummus is creamy, spiced, and perfect with pita chips or veggie sticks. It combines the smoothness of traditional hummus with the seasonal flavor of pumpkin, making it an ideal healthy snack or appetizer for fall gatherings.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 can chickpeas (drained and rinsed, approximately 15 oz)
  • ½ cup pumpkin purée
  • 2 tbsp tahini
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 garlic clove
  • ½ tsp ground cumin
  • Salt to taste
  • 23 tbsp olive oil

Optional Toppings

  • Sprinkle of paprika
  • Pepitas (pumpkin seeds)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Ingredients: Drain and rinse the chickpeas thoroughly to remove excess salt and preserve a clean flavor. Peel the garlic clove to be added to the mix.
  2. Blend Base Ingredients: In a food processor, combine chickpeas, pumpkin purée, tahini, lemon juice, garlic, ground cumin, and salt. Pulse until the mixture starts to look creamy but still has some texture.
  3. Add Olive Oil: With the food processor running, slowly stream in the olive oil to emulsify the mixture and achieve a smooth, creamy consistency.
  4. Adjust Seasoning and Consistency: Taste your hummus and add more salt or lemon juice if needed. If the dip is too thick, add a little water or more olive oil and blend again until desired texture is reached.
  5. Serve and Garnish: Transfer the hummus to a serving bowl. Optionally, sprinkle with paprika and pepitas for added flavor and a festive look. Serve with pita chips, fresh vegetables, or your favorite dippers.

Notes

  • This hummus can be made ahead and stored in the refrigerator for 4–5 days, making it great for party prep.
  • Add a pinch of cayenne pepper if you prefer a spicy kick.
  • Use fresh pumpkin purée or canned, but make sure it is pure pumpkin and not pumpkin pie filling.
  • For extra creaminess, soak the chickpeas overnight and cook them instead of using canned.
