Description

Oven Baked Nachos are a delicious and easy-to-make appetizer or snack featuring crunchy tortilla chips topped with seasoned ground beef, melted cheeses, black beans, and fresh vibrant toppings. Baked until the cheese is melted and bubbly, these loaded nachos offer a perfect combination of textures and flavors that are great for casual meals, parties, or game day.

Ingredients

Base

  • 8 oz tortilla chips

Meat & Seasoning

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 packet taco seasoning

Cheese

  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese

Beans & Veggies

  • 1 cup black beans, drained and rinsed
  • ½ cup diced tomatoes
  • ¼ cup diced red onion
  • 1 jalapeño, sliced

Toppings & Garnishes

  • ½ cup sour cream
  • ½ cup salsa
  • 1 avocado, diced
  • Fresh cilantro, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and for easy cleanup.
  2. Cook the Beef: In a skillet over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef until it is browned and fully cooked through. Drain any excess grease from the pan.
  3. Season the Beef: Add the taco seasoning to the cooked beef and prepare it according to the package instructions, usually by adding a bit of water and simmering until thickened.
  4. Layer the Nachos – First Layer: Spread half of the tortilla chips evenly over the prepared baking sheet. Sprinkle half of the seasoned beef, black beans, cheddar cheese, and Monterey Jack cheese over the chips.
  5. Layer the Nachos – Second Layer: Top with the remaining tortilla chips, then layer with the remaining beef, black beans, and cheeses to create a second cheese and meat layer.
  6. Bake: Place the baking sheet into the oven and bake for 8 to 10 minutes, or until the cheese has melted and is bubbly.
  7. Add Fresh Toppings: Remove the nachos from the oven and immediately top with diced tomatoes, red onion, sliced jalapeño, sour cream, salsa, diced avocado, and fresh cilantro.
  8. Serve: Serve the nachos immediately while warm and enjoy as a snack, appetizer, or casual meal.

Notes

  • Layering the toppings ensures cheese and beef are evenly distributed for every bite.
  • Feel free to add additional toppings such as sliced olives, corn, pickled jalapeños, or guacamole for extra flavor.
  • To make this dish vegetarian, substitute the ground beef with a meatless alternative or extra beans.
  • Ensure the black beans are well rinsed and drained to avoid excess moisture, which can make the nachos soggy.
