Description

Lilac Lemonade is a refreshing and elegant homemade beverage combining the bright, tangy flavor of fresh lemons with a delicate floral infusion of edible lilac blossoms. This vibrant and fragrant lemonade is perfect for spring and summer gatherings, offering a beautiful twist on classic lemonade with simple ingredients and easy preparation.

Ingredients

For the Lilac Syrup

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup fresh edible lilac blossoms (pesticide-free, stems and leaves removed)

For the Lemonade

  • 1 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice (about 4-6 lemons)
  • 4 cups cold water
  • Ice cubes
  • Fresh lemon slices for garnish
  • Extra fresh edible lilac blossoms for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Lilac Blossoms: Carefully rinse the lilac blossoms under cold water to remove any dirt or insects. Remove all stems and leaves, keeping only the fragrant petals for infusion.
  2. Make the Lilac Syrup: In a saucepan, combine 1 cup water and 1 cup granulated sugar. Warm gently over medium-low heat, stirring continuously until the sugar completely dissolves. Do not boil.
  3. Infuse Lilac: Remove the saucepan from heat and add the cleaned lilac blossoms to the syrup. Allow the blossoms to steep in the warm syrup until it becomes fragrant, about 20 minutes. This extracts the delicate floral notes.
  4. Strain the Syrup: Using a fine mesh strainer, strain the lilac syrup into a bowl or pitcher to remove all the blossoms. Discard the blossoms after straining.
  5. Squeeze the Lemons: Juice fresh lemons until you have about 1 cup of lemon juice. Strain out any pulp or seeds for a smooth lemonade.
  6. Combine Lemonade: In a large pitcher, mix the fresh lemon juice, lilac syrup, and 4 cups of cold water. Stir well to combine all flavors evenly.
  7. Adjust Flavor: Taste the lemonade and adjust the sweetness or lemon intensity by adding more water, sugar, or lemon juice as desired.
  8. Chill: Refrigerate the lemonade until thoroughly chilled, about 1 hour or longer for best flavor.
  9. Serve: Fill glasses with ice cubes and pour the chilled lilac lemonade over the ice. Garnish each serving with fresh lemon slices and a few edible lilac blossoms for an attractive presentation.

Notes

  • Only use lilac blossoms that are confirmed edible and pesticide-free to ensure safety.
  • The lilac syrup can be made ahead and stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

  • Adjust sweetness by varying the sugar amount to suit your taste preferences.
  • Store leftover lemonade in a covered pitcher in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Stir before serving.
  • Lemonade is best served chilled and over ice; serving warm is not recommended.
