Description

This creamy lemon Parmesan orzo is a bright and comforting Mediterranean side dish packed with fresh citrus flavor. Easy to prepare on the stovetop, it pairs beautifully with chicken, fish, or roasted vegetables, making it a versatile addition to any meal.

Ingredients

Orzo and Base

  • 1 cup (190g) orzo
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups (480ml) chicken or vegetable broth

Flavoring

  • ½ cup (50g) grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tbsp lemon zest
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper

Garnish

  • 2 tbsp chopped parsley

Instructions

  1. Prepare the base: Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat to create a rich, flavorful base for the orzo.
  2. Sauté garlic: Add minced garlic to the melted butter and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.
  3. Toast the orzo: Stir in the orzo and toast it for 1 minute to enhance its nutty flavor before adding liquid.
  4. Add broth and simmer: Pour in the chicken or vegetable broth and bring the mixture to a simmer, ensuring the orzo cooks evenly in the liquid.
  5. Cook the orzo: Let the orzo cook for 10–12 minutes, stirring occasionally until all the liquid is absorbed and the pasta is tender.
  6. Incorporate flavorings: Stir in the grated Parmesan cheese, lemon zest, lemon juice, salt, and black pepper, mixing well to combine all the bright and savory flavors.
  7. Garnish and serve: Sprinkle chopped parsley over the finished dish for a fresh pop of color and flavor, then serve warm.

Notes
