Description
Juicy grilled hot dogs served in toasted buns with classic toppings. A simple and flavorful recipe perfect for BBQs, cookouts, game days, and casual family dinners.
Ingredients
Hot Dogs
- 8 beef or chicken hot dogs
Buns & Toppings
- 8 hot dog buns
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1/4 cup yellow mustard
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 1/4 cup relish
- 1/2 small onion, finely diced
- Pickle slices, optional
- Shredded cheese, optional
Instructions
- Preheat Grill: Preheat a grill or grill pan over medium heat to prepare for cooking the hot dogs evenly with a pleasant char.
- Score Hot Dogs: Make a few shallow diagonal cuts in each hot dog to allow heat penetration and prevent bursting during grilling.
- Grill Hot Dogs: Grill the hot dogs for 5–7 minutes, turning frequently until they are heated through and lightly charred for that classic grilled flavor.
- Prepare Buns: Brush the inside of the buns with butter to ensure they toast nicely and absorb flavor.
- Toast Buns: Toast the buns on the grill for 1–2 minutes until golden and slightly crisp.
- Assemble: Place one grilled hot dog in each bun.
- Add Toppings: Add mustard, ketchup, relish, diced onions, and any optional toppings such as pickle slices or shredded cheese.
- Serve: Serve the hot dogs immediately while warm for the best taste experience.
Notes
- Don’t cut too deeply into the hot dogs or they may dry out during grilling.
- For extra flavor, lightly caramelize the onions before serving.
- Add sauerkraut, jalapeños, or crispy onions for different flavor variations.
- Chicken or turkey hot dogs can be used for a lighter, lower-fat option.
