Description

Juicy grilled hot dogs served in toasted buns with classic toppings. A simple and flavorful recipe perfect for BBQs, cookouts, game days, and casual family dinners.

Ingredients

Hot Dogs

  • 8 beef or chicken hot dogs

Buns & Toppings

  • 8 hot dog buns
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1/4 cup yellow mustard
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup relish
  • 1/2 small onion, finely diced
  • Pickle slices, optional
  • Shredded cheese, optional

Instructions

  1. Preheat Grill: Preheat a grill or grill pan over medium heat to prepare for cooking the hot dogs evenly with a pleasant char.
  2. Score Hot Dogs: Make a few shallow diagonal cuts in each hot dog to allow heat penetration and prevent bursting during grilling.
  3. Grill Hot Dogs: Grill the hot dogs for 5–7 minutes, turning frequently until they are heated through and lightly charred for that classic grilled flavor.
  4. Prepare Buns: Brush the inside of the buns with butter to ensure they toast nicely and absorb flavor.
  5. Toast Buns: Toast the buns on the grill for 1–2 minutes until golden and slightly crisp.
  6. Assemble: Place one grilled hot dog in each bun.
  7. Add Toppings: Add mustard, ketchup, relish, diced onions, and any optional toppings such as pickle slices or shredded cheese.
  8. Serve: Serve the hot dogs immediately while warm for the best taste experience.

Notes

  • Don’t cut too deeply into the hot dogs or they may dry out during grilling.
  • For extra flavor, lightly caramelize the onions before serving.
  • Add sauerkraut, jalapeños, or crispy onions for different flavor variations.
  • Chicken or turkey hot dogs can be used for a lighter, lower-fat option.
