Ingredients
Dry Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
Wet Ingredients
- 3/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Mix-ins and Toppings
- 1 cup milk chocolate chips
- 2 cups mini marshmallows
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 175°C (350°F) to prepare for baking the bars.
- Prepare Pan: Line a 23 × 23 cm (9×9 inch) baking pan with parchment paper for easy removal and cleanup.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a bowl, combine the graham cracker crumbs, all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt, stirring well to evenly distribute the leavening and salt.
- Mix Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk melted unsalted butter with brown sugar until fully combined, then add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing thoroughly.
- Combine Wet and Dry: Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined to form the dough.
- Press Base Layer: Press about two-thirds of the dough mixture evenly into the prepared baking pan, creating a firm base.
- Add Chocolate and Marshmallows: Sprinkle the milk chocolate chips evenly over the base layer, then scatter the mini marshmallows on top.
- Top with Remaining Dough: Crumble the remaining third of the dough mixture over the chocolate and marshmallows to create a crumbly topping.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 20 to 25 minutes, until the topping is golden and the marshmallows appear lightly toasted.
- Cool and Serve: Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan before slicing into 16 bars to ensure clean cuts and maintain texture.
Notes
- For extra toasted marshmallows, place the bars under the broiler briefly at the end of baking while watching carefully to avoid burning.
- You can swap milk chocolate chips with dark chocolate chips depending on your preference for sweetness and richness.
- Cooling the bars completely before cutting helps achieve neat slices without crumbling.
- Store leftover bars in an airtight container for up to 4 days to keep them fresh.
