Ingredients
Steak and Vegetables
- 500 g steak, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 4 medium potatoes, thinly sliced
- 1 small onion, sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
Dairy and Cheese
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup cream or milk
Liquids and Seasoning
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- Salt, to taste
- Black pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Prepare Slow Cooker: Lightly grease the slow cooker to prevent sticking and to make cleaning easier after cooking.
- Layer Ingredients: Place half of the thinly sliced potatoes in the bottom of the slow cooker, then add half of the steak pieces, followed by half of the sliced onion and shredded cheddar cheese. Repeat these layers with the remaining potatoes, steak, onion, and cheese.
- Mix and Pour Sauce: In a bowl, combine beef broth, cream (or milk), minced garlic, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Stir well to blend all the flavors before pouring this mixture evenly over the layered ingredients in the slow cooker.
- Cook the Casserole: Cover the slow cooker with its lid and cook on low for 6 to 7 hours or on high for 3 to 4 hours. Cooking on low is preferred for optimal tenderness and flavor development.
- Check for Doneness: Before serving, test the potatoes to ensure they are tender and cooked through. If necessary, cook a bit longer on low.
- Rest Before Serving: Let the casserole rest in the slow cooker with the lid off for a few minutes after cooking to enhance the texture and allow the flavors to settle.
Notes
- Use a well-marbled cut of steak for maximum tenderness and flavor.
- Add mushrooms or bell peppers to the layering for extra flavor and nutritional variety.
- Allow the casserole to rest before serving to improve texture and taste.
