Description
This Grilled Teriyaki Salmon is a deliciously tender and juicy dish infused with sweet and savory Asian-inspired flavors. The salmon fillets are coated in a homemade teriyaki glaze that caramelizes beautifully on the grill, making it an easy and flavorful dinner option, perfect when served with rice and steamed vegetables.
Ingredients
For the Salmon
- 4 salmon fillets, about 6 oz (170 g) each
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Teriyaki Glaze
- 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons water
For Garnish
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
- 2 green onions, thinly sliced
Instructions
- Prepare the Teriyaki Glaze: In a small saucepan, combine the soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, sesame oil, grated ginger, and minced garlic. Bring this mixture to a gentle simmer over medium heat.
- Thicken the Sauce: Mix the cornstarch with water in a small bowl to create a slurry, then stir it into the simmering sauce. Continue cooking for 1–2 minutes until the glaze slightly thickens. Remove the saucepan from heat.
- Season the Salmon: Pat the salmon fillets dry with paper towels and season lightly with salt and black pepper on both sides.
- Prepare the Grill: Preheat the grill to medium-high heat and lightly oil the grates to prevent sticking.
- Brush Salmon with Glaze: Generously brush the salmon fillets with some of the prepared teriyaki glaze, coating evenly.
- Grill the Salmon: Place the salmon skin-side down on the grill and cook for about 4–5 minutes. Carefully flip the fillets and grill for an additional 3–4 minutes, brushing again with more glaze.
- Finish Cooking: Continue grilling until the salmon is cooked through, which means it flakes easily with a fork and has an opaque appearance.
- Garnish and Serve: Remove the salmon from the grill, garnish with sesame seeds and sliced green onions. Serve immediately with the remaining teriyaki glaze alongside rice and steamed vegetables if desired.
Notes
- Watch the salmon closely during grilling because the honey in the glaze can caramelize and burn quickly.
- For a stronger teriyaki flavor, marinate the salmon in some of the teriyaki sauce for 20–30 minutes before grilling.
- This dish pairs wonderfully with steamed broccoli, rice, or grilled vegetables for a complete meal.
- To make a gluten-free version, substitute the soy sauce with gluten-free tamari.
