Description

Soft, fluffy cinnamon rolls filled with gooey brown sugar cinnamon filling and topped with a creamy vanilla glaze, offering bakery-style cinnamon rolls made simple and approachable for home baking.

Ingredients

Dough Ingredients

  • 2 ¼ tsp yeast
  • ¾ cup warm milk
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • ¼ cup melted butter
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp salt

Filling

  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ cup butter, softened

Glaze

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Activate Yeast: In a small bowl, combine the yeast, warm milk, and sugar. Stir gently and let it rest for 5 minutes until it becomes frothy, indicating the yeast is activated.
  2. Prepare Dough: In a large mixing bowl, add the activated yeast mixture, then mix in the egg, melted butter, flour, and salt. Knead the dough for about 8 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  3. First Rise: Cover the dough with a clean towel or plastic wrap and allow it to rise in a warm place for 1 hour until it doubles in size.
  4. Shape Rolls: Roll the risen dough into a large rectangle on a floured surface. Spread the softened butter evenly over the dough, then sprinkle the brown sugar and cinnamon mixture evenly on top. Starting from one edge, tightly roll the dough into a log and cut it into 12 equal slices.
  5. Second Rise: Place the rolls cut-side up in a greased baking pan. Cover and let them rise for another 30 minutes until puffed up.
  6. Bake: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 25 minutes or until golden brown on top.
  7. Glaze: While the rolls are warm, mix together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla to create a smooth glaze. Drizzle over the warm cinnamon rolls before serving for a sweet finish.

Notes

  • Adding cream cheese to the glaze enhances richness and adds a tangy flavor.
  • The dough can be prepared the night before and refrigerated overnight, then baked fresh in the morning for convenience.
