Ingredients
Eggs
- 6 large eggs
Filling
- ¼ cup mayonnaise
- 1 tsp yellow mustard
- 1 tsp sweet pickle relish
- 1 tsp pickle juice
- ¼ tsp garlic powder
- ¼ tsp salt
- ⅛ tsp black pepper
Garnish
- Paprika, for garnish
- Fresh chives or parsley, optional
Instructions
- Boil the eggs: Place the eggs in a saucepan and cover them with cold water. Bring the water to a boil over medium-high heat.
- Cook off heat: Once boiling, cover the pan and remove it from the heat. Let the eggs sit in the hot water for 10–12 minutes to cook through.
- Cool the eggs: Transfer the cooked eggs to an ice bath and let them cool completely, at least 5 minutes, to stop the cooking process and make peeling easier.
- Peel and halve: Gently peel the eggs and slice each in half lengthwise to prepare for filling.
- Remove yolks: Carefully remove the yolks and place them in a small mixing bowl, setting the whites aside for filling.
- Make the filling: Mash the yolks with mayonnaise, yellow mustard, sweet pickle relish, pickle juice, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Stir or whisk until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
- Fill the eggs: Spoon or pipe the yolk mixture evenly into the cavities of the egg whites for an attractive and even presentation.
- Garnish and chill: Sprinkle the filled eggs with paprika and add chopped fresh chives or parsley if desired. Refrigerate the deviled eggs until ready to serve to maintain freshness and flavor.
Notes
- Older eggs are easier to peel than very fresh ones, improving presentation.
- For an extra smooth filling, process the yolks mixture in a food processor or press it through a fine-mesh sieve.
- Add a splash of hot sauce or a pinch of cayenne pepper to the yolk mixture for a spicy kick.
- Toppings like crumbled bacon, chopped pickles, or finely sliced green onions add texture and flavor.
- Keep the deviled eggs refrigerated and serve chilled for best taste and safety.
