Description

This Chocolate Chunk Banana Bread is ultra-moist, rich, and bursting with ripe banana flavor. Loaded with generous chunks of chocolate, it makes an ideal breakfast treat, snack, or dessert for banana bread enthusiasts looking for a quick and delicious homemade loaf.

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 1½ cups (190g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon

Wet Ingredients

  • 3 ripe bananas, mashed
  • ½ cup (100g) brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • ⅓ cup (80ml) melted unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Add-ins

  • 1 cup (170g) chocolate chunks

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C) to warm up while preparing the batter.
  2. Prepare the loaf pan: Grease and line a 9×5-inch loaf pan with parchment paper for easy removal.
  3. Mix dry ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, baking soda, salt, and ground cinnamon to evenly distribute the leavening and spices.
  4. Combine wet ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, mash the ripe bananas thoroughly, then add brown sugar, eggs, melted unsalted butter, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth and well combined.
  5. Add dry mixture to wet: Pour the dry ingredients into the wet banana mixture and stir gently until just combined, being careful not to overmix which can toughen the bread.
  6. Fold in chocolate chunks: Incorporate the chocolate chunks evenly throughout the batter to ensure each slice has plenty of chocolate.
  7. Transfer batter to pan: Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top with a spatula. Optionally, sprinkle a few extra chocolate chunks on top for an attractive finish.
  8. Bake the bread: Place the loaf in the preheated oven and bake for 50–60 minutes. Check doneness by inserting a toothpick into the center; it should come out with a few moist crumbs but no wet batter.
  9. Cool the loaf: Allow the banana bread to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing and serving.
  10. Serve: Slice into approximately 10 pieces and enjoy your delicious chocolate chunk banana bread as a breakfast treat or snack.

Notes

  • Use overripe bananas as they provide the sweetest and most intense banana flavor.
  • Dark chocolate chunks can be used for a richer, less sweet taste.
  • Store the banana bread covered at room temperature to keep it fresh for up to 3 days.
