Ingredients
Dry Ingredients
- 1½ cups (190g) all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
Wet Ingredients
- 3 ripe bananas, mashed
- ½ cup (100g) brown sugar
- 2 large eggs
- ⅓ cup (80ml) melted unsalted butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Add-ins
- 1 cup (170g) chocolate chunks
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C) to warm up while preparing the batter.
- Prepare the loaf pan: Grease and line a 9×5-inch loaf pan with parchment paper for easy removal.
- Mix dry ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, baking soda, salt, and ground cinnamon to evenly distribute the leavening and spices.
- Combine wet ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, mash the ripe bananas thoroughly, then add brown sugar, eggs, melted unsalted butter, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth and well combined.
- Add dry mixture to wet: Pour the dry ingredients into the wet banana mixture and stir gently until just combined, being careful not to overmix which can toughen the bread.
- Fold in chocolate chunks: Incorporate the chocolate chunks evenly throughout the batter to ensure each slice has plenty of chocolate.
- Transfer batter to pan: Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top with a spatula. Optionally, sprinkle a few extra chocolate chunks on top for an attractive finish.
- Bake the bread: Place the loaf in the preheated oven and bake for 50–60 minutes. Check doneness by inserting a toothpick into the center; it should come out with a few moist crumbs but no wet batter.
- Cool the loaf: Allow the banana bread to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing and serving.
- Serve: Slice into approximately 10 pieces and enjoy your delicious chocolate chunk banana bread as a breakfast treat or snack.
Notes
- Use overripe bananas as they provide the sweetest and most intense banana flavor.
- Dark chocolate chunks can be used for a richer, less sweet taste.
- Store the banana bread covered at room temperature to keep it fresh for up to 3 days.
