Description

These Chocolate Baked Donuts are rich, moist, and loaded with deep chocolate flavor. Baked instead of fried, they’re an easy homemade treat that’s perfect for breakfast, dessert, or an afternoon snack.

Ingredients

For the Donuts

  • 1 cup (125g) all-purpose flour
  • ⅓ cup (30g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ½ cup (100g) granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ cup (120ml) milk
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Chocolate Glaze

  • 1 cup (120g) powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 23 tablespoons milk
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure it reaches the correct temperature for baking the donuts evenly.
  2. Prepare Pan: Lightly grease a donut pan to prevent the donuts from sticking after baking.
  3. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, unsweetened cocoa powder, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt until evenly combined.
  4. Mix Wet Ingredients: In another bowl, whisk together the egg, milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  5. Combine Mixtures: Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined to avoid overmixing which can make donuts tough.
  6. Fill Donut Pan: Transfer the batter into a piping bag or a zip-top bag with a corner cut off for easy filling. Pipe the batter into the donut cavities about three-quarters full to allow space for rising.
  7. Bake Donuts: Bake the donuts in the preheated oven for 10–12 minutes or until they spring back to a light touch, indicating they are fully baked.
  8. Cool Donuts: Let the donuts cool in the pan for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  9. Prepare Glaze: In a bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, cocoa powder, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth and shiny to create the chocolate glaze.
  10. Glaze Donuts: Dip the cooled donuts into the chocolate glaze, ensuring they are fully coated, then place them back on the wire rack to allow the glaze to set before serving.

Notes

  • Avoid overmixing the batter to keep the donuts tender and light.
  • For an extra touch, add chocolate sprinkles on the glaze before it sets.
  • Store donuts in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days to maintain freshness.
