Description

A creamy, cheesy bowl of comfort featuring hearty ham, tender potatoes, and melted cheddar cheese, coming together to create the perfect warm and satisfying winter soup.

Ingredients

Soup Base

  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 2 cups milk
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Main Ingredients

  • 2 cups diced ham
  • 3 potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Sauté Onion: In a pot, melt the butter over medium heat and sauté the diced onion until it becomes soft and translucent, usually about 3-5 minutes.
  2. Make the Roux: Stir in the flour with the butter and onion mixture to create a roux, and cook for about 1 minute to eliminate the raw flour taste, stirring constantly.
  3. Add Broth and Potatoes: Gradually add the chicken broth while stirring, then add the cubed potatoes. Bring to a simmer and cook for 10 to 12 minutes or until the potatoes are tender when pierced with a fork.
  4. Add Milk, Ham, and Cheese: Stir in the milk, diced ham, and shredded cheddar cheese. Continue to cook and stir until the cheese is fully melted and the soup has thickened to a creamy consistency.
  5. Season and Serve: Taste the soup and season with salt and pepper as desired. Serve the soup warm for a comforting meal.
