Ingredients
Fish and Tacos
- 1½ lbs white fish fillets (cod, tilapia, or mahi-mahi)
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp chili powder
- 1 tsp paprika
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp cumin
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- 8 small corn or flour tortillas
- 2 cups shredded cabbage
- ¼ cup chopped cilantro
- 1 avocado, sliced
- Lime wedges
Lime Sauce
- ½ cup sour cream or Greek yogurt
- 2 tbsp mayonnaise
- 1 tbsp lime juice
- 1 tsp hot sauce (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the Fish Seasoning: In a small bowl, combine chili powder, paprika, garlic powder, cumin, salt, and black pepper. Coat the white fish fillets evenly with olive oil and then rub the seasoning mix all over the fish for full flavor.
- Cook the Fish: Heat a grill or a pan over medium-high heat. Cook the seasoned fish fillets for 3 to 4 minutes on each side until they are cooked through and easily flake apart with a fork.
- Make the Lime Sauce: While the fish is cooking, whisk together sour cream or Greek yogurt, mayonnaise, lime juice, and hot sauce (if using) in a small bowl until smooth and creamy.
- Warm the Tortillas: Heat the tortillas in a skillet or on the grill until warm and slightly pliable, about 20 to 30 seconds per side.
- Assemble the Tacos: Place a portion of cooked fish on each tortilla. Top with shredded cabbage, sliced avocado, chopped cilantro, and a generous drizzle of lime sauce.
- Serve: Serve the assembled fish tacos immediately with lime wedges on the side for squeezing over the top.
Notes
- Either fresh or frozen fish fillets work well for this recipe; if using frozen, thaw fully before cooking.
- Add extras like pico de gallo, pickled onions, or jalapeños to customize the flavor and heat level.
- These tacos are best eaten immediately to enjoy the contrast of warm fish and tortillas with fresh crisp toppings.
