Description

These Turkey Pepperoni Cheese-Stuffed Breadsticks are a savory, cheesy delight. Soft, fluffy breadsticks are stuffed with lean turkey pepperoni, mozzarella cheese, and Italian seasonings. Perfect as a snack, appetizer, or even a fun dinner idea for the whole family!

Ingredients

  • For the Dough:
  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)

  • 1 cup warm water (about 110°F/45°C)

  • 1 tsp sugar

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 2 tbsp olive oil

  • For the Filling:
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

  • 1/2 cup turkey pepperoni slices (cut into quarters or strips)

  • 1/2 tsp dried oregano

  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder

  • 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes (optional for spice)

  • For Topping:
  • 2 tbsp melted butter

  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder

  • 1/2 tsp dried parsley or Italian seasoning

  • Marinara sauce (for dipping)

Instructions

  • Prepare the Dough:
  • In a small bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil, and mix until a dough forms.
  • Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes, or until it’s smooth and elastic.
  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean towel, and let it rise for about 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
  • Prepare the Filling:
  • While the dough is rising, mix the shredded mozzarella, turkey pepperoni pieces, oregano, garlic powder, and red pepper flakes (if using) in a bowl. Set it aside.
  • Assemble the Breadsticks:
  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
  • Once the dough has risen, punch it down and transfer it to a floured surface.
  • Roll the dough into a large rectangle, about 1/4-inch thick.
  • Evenly spread the cheese and pepperoni mixture over the dough, leaving about 1 inch around the edges.
  • Carefully roll the dough up from one of the longer sides to form a log, sealing the edges well.
  • Slice the rolled dough into about 12-14 equal-sized breadsticks.
  • Bake the Breadsticks:
  • Arrange the breadsticks on the prepared baking sheet, leaving some space between each one.
  • Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown and the cheese is melted inside.
  • Add Topping:
  • While the breadsticks are baking, mix the melted butter with garlic powder and parsley.
  • Once the breadsticks are done baking, remove them from the oven and brush them with the garlic butter mixture for extra flavor.
  • Serve:
  • Let the breadsticks cool for a minute, then serve warm with marinara sauce for dipping.

Notes

  • If you prefer, you can swap out turkey pepperoni for regular pepperoni or other types of deli meats like turkey .

  • For an extra cheesy version, you can sprinkle more mozzarella cheese on top before baking.

  • These breadsticks can be made ahead and frozen. After slicing the dough, arrange the breadsticks on a baking sheet and freeze until solid. Then, transfer them to a freezer-safe bag and bake directly from frozen when ready to serve.
