Ingredients
Dough
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 packet active dry yeast (about 2 1/4 teaspoons)
- 1/2 cup warm milk (about 110°F/43°C)
- 1/4 cup butter, melted
- 1 large egg
Filling
- 1 cup chopped fresh strawberries
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Glaze
- Optional: powdered sugar and milk or cream for drizzle
Instructions
- Activate yeast: In a small bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and active dry yeast. Stir gently and let sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy, indicating the yeast is active.
- Prepare dough: In a large mixing bowl, add the flour. Pour in the melted butter, beaten egg, and the yeast mixture. Mix together and knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until it is soft and elastic.
- First rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Shape the rolls: Roll out the dough on a floured surface into a rectangle about 12×15 inches. Evenly spread the chopped strawberries over the dough, then sprinkle with brown sugar and cinnamon.
- Roll and slice: Starting from the long edge, tightly roll the dough into a log. Slice the log into 8 equal rolls using a sharp knife or dental floss.
- Second rise: Arrange the cinnamon rolls in a greased baking dish, cover, and let them rise for 20 minutes to become puffy.
- Bake: Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes until golden brown and cooked through.
- Glaze and serve: Prepare a simple glaze by mixing powdered sugar with a little milk or cream if desired, and drizzle over warm rolls. Serve immediately for soft, gooey strawberry cinnamon rolls.
Notes
- Use fresh or frozen strawberries; if using frozen, thaw and drain them well to avoid soggy dough.
- Be careful not to overfill the rolls to prevent the filling from leaking during baking.
- For a richer flavor, brush the top of the rolls with melted butter right after baking.
- You can substitute the glaze with cream cheese frosting for a tangy contrast.
