Ingredients
- 1 sheet puff pastry (store-bought or homemade)
- 1/2 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or a mix)
- 1/4 cup cooked spinach, squeezed dry
- 1/4 cup cream cheese (optional for added richness)
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Fresh herbs (optional, such as parsley or thyme, for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Roll out the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface. Use a knife or a cookie cutter to cut the pastry into small squares or circles, depending on your preference.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the shredded cheese, cooked spinach, cream cheese (if using), garlic powder, oregano, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
- Place a small spoonful of the filling in the center of each pastry square or circle.
- Fold the pastry over the filling to create a pocket or fold the edges inwards to create a triangle shape. Press the edges to seal.
- Beat the egg and brush the top of each pastry bite with the egg wash for a golden finish.
- Arrange the pastry bites on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 15–20 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed up.
- Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving. Garnish with fresh herbs if desired.
Notes
- Feel free to get creative with the fillings! You can use sautéed mushrooms, beef, or even sun-dried tomatoes for a variety of flavors.
- If you’re in a rush, store-bought puff pastry works perfectly for this recipe.
- These can also be made ahead of time, assembled, and refrigerated until you’re ready to bake.
