Description

A hearty and satisfying casserole made with eggs, sausage, cheese, and optional vegetables, perfect for breakfast, brunch, or dinner.

Ingredients

  • Eggs
  • Sausage (breakfast sausage, Italian sausage, or spicy varieties)
  • Milk
  • Cheese (shredded cheddar, mozzarella, or preferred cheese blend)
  • Bread (optional, cubed for a heartier casserole)
  • Optional Add-Ins:
    • Vegetables (bell peppers, spinach, mushrooms, onions)
    • Seasonings (salt, pepper, garlic powder, smoked paprika)
  • Substitutes:
    • Turkey sausage
    • Dairy-free milk
    • Gluten-free bread

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a skillet, cook the sausage over medium heat, breaking it apart as it cooks. Once fully browned, drain excess fat and set aside.
  3. In a bowl, whisk the eggs and milk together. Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and smoked paprika to taste.
  4. If using bread, layer the cubed bread at the bottom of a greased baking dish. Evenly distribute the cooked sausage on top of the bread. Pour the egg mixture over the sausage and bread.
  5. Sprinkle your choice of shredded cheese over the top. If using vegetables, add them in at this stage for an extra burst of flavor.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-40 minutes or until the casserole is set and the top is golden brown.
  7. Let the casserole cool slightly before cutting into squares and serving.

Notes

  • This casserole is customizable with your favorite sausage, vegetables, and seasonings. Feel free to add spinach, mushrooms, or bell peppers for extra flavor and nutrition.
  • If you prefer a spicy version, use spicy sausage or add jalapeños to the mix.
  • To make the casserole lighter, consider using egg whites, turkey sausage, and dairy-free milk.
  • To make it gluten-free, simply substitute with gluten-free bread.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days or frozen for up to 2 months.
