Description

Ritz Cracker Meatloaf is a classic American comfort food favorite made extra tender and flavorful with buttery Ritz crackers. This easy and nostalgic recipe combines ground beef with simple pantry staples, topped with a sweet and tangy glaze, making it perfect for a cozy family dinner.

Ingredients

Meatloaf

  • lbs ground beef
  • 1½ cups crushed Ritz crackers
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup milk
  • ½ cup onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • ⅓ cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

Topping

  • ½ cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a loaf pan or line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
  2. Soak crackers. In a large mixing bowl, combine the crushed Ritz crackers and milk. Let this mixture sit for 1 minute to allow the crackers to absorb the milk and soften, which helps keep the meatloaf moist.
  3. Combine ingredients. Add the ground beef, eggs, finely chopped onion, minced garlic, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper to the soaked crackers. Mix everything gently with your hands or a spoon until just combined to avoid overworking the meat, which can make the loaf tough.
  4. Shape the loaf. Form the mixture into a loaf shape and place it into your prepared loaf pan or onto the lined baking sheet.
  5. Prepare topping. In a small bowl, mix together the ketchup and brown sugar until smooth. Spread this glaze evenly over the top of the meatloaf to create a flavorful, caramelized crust while baking.
  6. Bake. Place the meatloaf in the preheated oven and bake for 45–55 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C), ensuring the meat is safely cooked through.
  7. Rest before serving. Remove the meatloaf from the oven and let it rest for 5–10 minutes. This step allows the juices to redistribute, making for easier slicing and a juicier final dish.

Notes

  • Do not overmix the meat mixture to keep the meatloaf tender and avoid a dense texture.
  • Ground turkey can be used as a healthier alternative to beef, though cooking time may slightly vary.
  • Leftover meatloaf stores well in the refrigerator for up to 4 days; reheat gently to retain moisture.
  • Serve alongside classic sides like mashed potatoes, green beans, or macaroni and cheese for a comforting meal.
