Description

A rich and aromatic braised beef dish infused with orange, sesame, and ginger flavors, creating a perfect balance of sweet, savory, and citrusy notes. This comforting and flavorful meal is ideal for a hearty dinner and pairs beautifully with rice or noodles.

Ingredients

Beef

  • 1 lb beef chuck, cut into chunks

Seasonings & Aromatics

  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp ginger, grated
  • 1/2 cup orange juice (fresh recommended)
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp sesame seeds
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Sear the beef: Heat oil in a heavy-bottomed pot over medium-high heat. Add the beef chunks and brown on all sides to develop a deep, rich flavor. Remove beef and set aside.
  2. Sauté aromatics: In the same pot, add minced garlic and grated ginger. Cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant but not burnt.
  3. Add liquids and seasonings: Pour in orange juice, soy sauce, honey, and beef broth. Stir well to combine and scrape up any browned bits from the pot for extra flavor.
  4. Braise the beef: Return the beef chunks to the pot, bring the liquid to a simmer, then cover with a lid. Reduce the heat to low and cook gently for 1.5 to 2 hours until the beef is tender and flavorful.
  5. Finish and season: Stir in sesame oil and adjust salt and pepper to taste. Allow the flavors to meld for a few more minutes on low heat.
  6. Garnish and serve: Sprinkle sesame seeds over the top. Serve the braised beef warm, ideally with a side of rice or noodles to soak up the delicious sauce.

Notes

  • Use fresh orange juice for the best citrus flavor and brightness.
  • This dish pairs wonderfully with steamed rice or your favorite noodles.
  • For a spicy variation, add chili flakes during the sauté step.
