Description

These crispy mashed potato bombs are a delightful appetizer featuring creamy mashed potatoes stuffed with gooey cheese, coated in a crunchy breadcrumb layer, and cooked to golden perfection by frying or baking. Perfect as a snack or party treat, they offer a satisfying blend of textures and flavors.

Ingredients

Mashed Potato Mixture

  • 2 cups mashed potatoes
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Filling

  • 1/2 cup shredded cheese (mozzarella recommended for melty center)

Breading and Coating

  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs

Cooking

  • Oil for frying or baking

Instructions

  1. Prepare the potato mixture: In a bowl, combine the mashed potatoes with salt, pepper, and flour to create a pliable mixture that holds shape.
  2. Form potato balls: Take a portion of the potato mixture and flatten it in your palm. Place a cube or small amount of shredded cheese in the center, then carefully mold the potato around the cheese to form a smooth ball.
  3. Coat the potato balls: Dip each potato ball into beaten egg, ensuring an even coat, then roll it thoroughly in breadcrumbs to cover the surface completely.
  4. Cook the bombs: Either fry in hot oil until golden and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per side, or bake in a preheated oven at 400°F (200°C) for 15–18 minutes until golden and heated through.

Notes

  • For a lighter version, you can air fry the bombs instead of frying or baking.
  • Mozzarella cheese works best for a gooey, melty center.
  • Ensure the mashed potato mixture is not too wet, or it will be difficult to shape.
  • You can freeze the formed, breaded bombs before cooking for later use.
