Description

These Maple Syrup Bars are chewy and rich with a buttery brown sugar flavor, making them a delightful dessert perfect for fall or winter. They pair beautifully with a cup of coffee and offer a subtle maple sweetness accented by the optional nuts.

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • ½ cup butter, melted
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup pure maple syrup
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Optional

  • ½ cup chopped walnuts or pecans

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease an 8×8-inch baking pan to prepare for baking.
  2. Mix Wet Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the melted butter, brown sugar, pure maple syrup, egg, and vanilla extract until smooth and combined.
  3. Add Dry Ingredients: Gradually stir in the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt into the wet mixture until just combined to avoid overmixing.
  4. Fold in Nuts: If using, gently fold in the chopped walnuts or pecans evenly throughout the batter.
  5. Bake: Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it evenly. Bake for 25–30 minutes until the bars turn golden and a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs.
  6. Cool and Serve: Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan on a wire rack before cutting into 16 squares to ensure they hold their shape.

Notes

  • For an extra boost of maple flavor, add ½ teaspoon of maple extract to the batter.
  • Finish bars by drizzling with a maple glaze or sprinkling lightly with powdered sugar for added sweetness and presentation.
