Ingredients
Dry Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- ½ teaspoon baking powder
- ¼ teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
- ½ cup butter, melted
- ¾ cup brown sugar
- ¼ cup pure maple syrup
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Optional
- ½ cup chopped walnuts or pecans
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease an 8×8-inch baking pan to prepare for baking.
- Mix Wet Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the melted butter, brown sugar, pure maple syrup, egg, and vanilla extract until smooth and combined.
- Add Dry Ingredients: Gradually stir in the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt into the wet mixture until just combined to avoid overmixing.
- Fold in Nuts: If using, gently fold in the chopped walnuts or pecans evenly throughout the batter.
- Bake: Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it evenly. Bake for 25–30 minutes until the bars turn golden and a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs.
- Cool and Serve: Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan on a wire rack before cutting into 16 squares to ensure they hold their shape.
Notes
- For an extra boost of maple flavor, add ½ teaspoon of maple extract to the batter.
- Finish bars by drizzling with a maple glaze or sprinkling lightly with powdered sugar for added sweetness and presentation.
