Description

Classic baked beans made quickly in the Instant Pot with smoky, sweet, and tangy flavor — served hot over toast for a cozy and hearty breakfast or lunch.


Ingredients

Beans

  • 2 cups dried navy beans (or 2 cans cooked beans)
  • 4 cups water or broth

Flavorings & Sauce

  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • ¼ cup ketchup
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp molasses or maple syrup
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp mustard
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

To Serve

  • Toasted bread, for serving


Instructions

  1. Prepare Beans: If using dried beans, place them in the Instant Pot with 4 cups of water and pressure cook for 25 minutes. When done, perform a quick release and drain the beans thoroughly.
  2. Add Flavorings: Return the drained beans to the Instant Pot. Add the diced onion, minced garlic, ketchup, brown sugar, molasses or maple syrup, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, salt, and pepper. Stir gently to combine all ingredients well.
  3. Cook Beans Again: Close the lid and seal the Instant Pot. Pressure cook the mixture for an additional 10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together. Once complete, do a quick release and stir the beans to distribute seasoning evenly.
  4. Serve: Toast your preferred bread and butter it if desired. Serve the hot baked beans spooned generously over the toasted bread for a comforting and hearty meal.

Notes

  • For an extra smoky flavor, add cooked bacon or sausage before serving.
  • If using canned beans, reduce cooking time to 10 minutes in the Instant Pot to prevent overcooking.
