Description

Flaky golden pastries filled with creamy, sautéed mushrooms make these savory treats perfect for holidays, parties, or anytime you want a gourmet appetizer that’s both elegant and easy to prepare.

Ingredients

Pastry

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed

Filling

  • 2 cups mushrooms, finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp cream cheese
  • Salt & pepper to taste

Finishing

  • 1 egg (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Sauté Mushrooms: Heat the butter in a skillet over medium heat and add the finely chopped mushrooms. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the mushrooms have softened and released their moisture, about 5-7 minutes.
  2. Add Cream Cheese and Season: Stir in the cream cheese until melted and well combined with the mushrooms. Season the mixture with salt and pepper to taste. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  3. Prepare Pastry Squares: Roll out the thawed puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface and cut into 12 equal squares.
  4. Fill and Fold Pastries: Place a spoonful of the mushroom filling in the center of each square. Fold each square into a triangle, pressing the edges firmly to seal the filling inside.
  5. Brush with Egg Wash: Beat the egg and brush it over the tops of the pastries to achieve a golden, glossy finish during baking.
  6. Bake: Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Place the filled pastries on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 12–15 minutes or until puffed and golden brown.
  7. Serve Warm: Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly before serving. Best enjoyed warm to preserve the flaky texture and creamy filling.

Notes

  • Add fresh thyme or herbs to the mushroom mixture for extra flavor.
  • Serve the pastries warm to retain their flaky texture and creamy interior.
  • Puff pastry can be stored frozen; thaw it fully before use for best results.
