Description
Flaky golden pastries filled with creamy, sautéed mushrooms make these savory treats perfect for holidays, parties, or anytime you want a gourmet appetizer that’s both elegant and easy to prepare.
Ingredients
Pastry
- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
Filling
- 2 cups mushrooms, finely chopped
- 1 tbsp butter
- 2 tbsp cream cheese
- Salt & pepper to taste
Finishing
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
Instructions
- Sauté Mushrooms: Heat the butter in a skillet over medium heat and add the finely chopped mushrooms. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the mushrooms have softened and released their moisture, about 5-7 minutes.
- Add Cream Cheese and Season: Stir in the cream cheese until melted and well combined with the mushrooms. Season the mixture with salt and pepper to taste. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
- Prepare Pastry Squares: Roll out the thawed puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface and cut into 12 equal squares.
- Fill and Fold Pastries: Place a spoonful of the mushroom filling in the center of each square. Fold each square into a triangle, pressing the edges firmly to seal the filling inside.
- Brush with Egg Wash: Beat the egg and brush it over the tops of the pastries to achieve a golden, glossy finish during baking.
- Bake: Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Place the filled pastries on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 12–15 minutes or until puffed and golden brown.
- Serve Warm: Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly before serving. Best enjoyed warm to preserve the flaky texture and creamy filling.
Notes
- Add fresh thyme or herbs to the mushroom mixture for extra flavor.
- Serve the pastries warm to retain their flaky texture and creamy interior.
- Puff pastry can be stored frozen; thaw it fully before use for best results.
