Ingredients
Dry Ingredients
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 1/4 tsp instant yeast
- 1 1/2 tsp salt
Wet Ingredients
- 1 1/4 cups warm water
- 1/4 cup olive oil, plus more for topping
Flavorings & Toppings
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp fresh rosemary, chopped
- 1 tbsp fresh thyme, chopped
- Flaky salt, for topping
Instructions
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, instant yeast, and salt until evenly distributed.
- Add Wet Ingredients: Pour in the warm water and 1/4 cup of olive oil to the dry mixture. Stir until a sticky dough forms that holds together.
- Knead Dough: Lightly knead the dough on a floured surface or continue mixing in the bowl until the dough is smooth and elastic, about 5-7 minutes.
- First Rise: Cover the bowl with a clean towel or plastic wrap and allow the dough to rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.
- Preheat Oven: While the dough is rising, preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Shape Dough: Grease a baking pan generously with olive oil. Press the risen dough evenly into the pan, stretching it to cover the surface.
- Create Dimples: Using your fingers, gently press dimples all over the surface of the dough to create its characteristic texture.
- Add Toppings: Drizzle additional olive oil over the dough surface. Sprinkle the minced garlic, chopped rosemary, chopped thyme, and flaky salt evenly over the top.
- Bake: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the focaccia is golden brown on top and cooked through.
- Cool and Serve: Remove the focaccia from the oven and let it cool slightly in the pan for about 5-10 minutes before slicing and serving warm or at room temperature.
Notes
- For deeper flavor, allow the dough to rise overnight in the refrigerator.
- Focaccia is best served warm or at room temperature.
- You can customize the herbs based on availability, such as substituting thyme and rosemary with oregano or basil.
- Use flaky sea salt for a nice crunch and enhanced flavor on top.
