Description
Garlic Parmesan Focaccia is a savory, aromatic Italian bread that’s crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Infused with fresh garlic, nutty Parmesan, and olive oil, it’s the perfect accompaniment to pasta, soups, or salads. This simple bread is easy to make and deliciously satisfying.
Ingredients
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons sugar
- 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 1/2 cups warm water (about 110°F/43°C)
- 1/4 cup olive oil (plus extra for drizzling)
- 1 tablespoon fresh rosemary, chopped (optional)
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano (optional)
- Salt, to taste
- Freshly cracked black pepper, to taste
- Extra grated Parmesan for garnish
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, sugar, and yeast. Stir the ingredients together. Gradually add the warm water and 1/4 cup of olive oil, stirring until a dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl and cover with a kitchen towel. Let it rise in a warm place for 1 to 1 1/2 hours, or until doubled in size.
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish or sheet pan with olive oil.
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down and transfer to the prepared baking dish. Use your fingers to press and stretch the dough to fit the pan.
- In a small bowl, combine minced garlic, grated Parmesan, olive oil, oregano (if using), salt, and pepper. Drizzle this mixture over the dough and use your fingers to make dimples in the dough, allowing the oil to soak in.
- Cover the dough with a towel and let it rise for 15-20 minutes. It will puff up slightly.
- Bake the focaccia in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy on top.
- Remove from the oven and drizzle with more olive oil. Sprinkle with additional grated Parmesan cheese. Let it cool slightly before slicing.
- Serve warm, perfect with pasta, soups, or salads, or enjoy on its own.
Notes
- You can add more herbs like thyme or basil for extra flavor.
- If you prefer a cheesy version, sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese before baking.
- For extra crispy edges, drizzle a bit more olive oil before baking.
