Description

A classic French toast recipe with golden, crispy bread on the outside and a soft, custardy interior. Perfect for breakfast or brunch, topped with maple syrup, fresh fruit, or whipped cream.

Ingredients

  • 4 slices bread
  • ⅓ cup milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ⅓ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • Maple syrup (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a shallow bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, salt, vanilla extract, sugar, and cinnamon until well-combined.
  2. Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat and add the butter, allowing it to melt and coat the surface.
  3. Dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture, making sure both sides are well-coated.
  4. Place the dipped bread slices onto the hot skillet or griddle and cook for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.
  5. Once cooked, remove the French toast from the skillet and serve immediately with maple syrup, powdered sugar, or your favorite toppings.

Notes

  • Berry French Toast: Top with fresh berries and whipped cream for a fruity and indulgent twist.
  • Stuffed French Toast: Spread cream cheese or Nutella between two slices of bread for a decadent stuffed version.
  • Savory French Toast: Skip the sugar and cinnamon, and add a pinch of salt and pepper for a savory version.
  • Vegan French Toast: Replace eggs with a flax egg, use plant-based milk, and vegan butter for a dairy-free option.
  • Storage: Store leftover French toast in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
  • Reheating: Reheat in a toaster or oven at 350°F (175°C) for 5-7 minutes for crispy results.
