Description

A rich, soft, and buttery brioche bread with a light and airy texture, perfect for sandwiches, breakfast, or enjoying with jam.

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/4 tsp yeast (active dry yeast)
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 cup warm milk (about 110°F)
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened

Instructions

  1. Activate Yeast: In a small bowl, mix the yeast with warm milk and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy and activated.
  2. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, sugar, and salt.
  3. Add Eggs and Yeast Mixture: Crack the eggs into the dry ingredients, then pour in the activated yeast mixture. Stir together until a rough dough forms.
  4. Incorporate Butter and Knead: Gradually add the softened butter in small pieces while kneading the dough by hand or with a stand mixer fitted with a dough hook. Continue kneading until the dough is smooth, elastic, and soft, which can take about 8-10 minutes.
  5. First Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 to 2 hours, or until doubled in size.
  6. Shape the Dough: Punch down the risen dough gently to release air. Shape it into a loaf by folding and tucking the dough evenly.
  7. Second Rise: Place the shaped dough into a greased loaf pan. Cover again and allow to rise for another 45 minutes to 1 hour until puffy.
  8. Bake: Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Bake the loaf for 30-35 minutes or until the top is golden brown and a skewer inserted in the center comes out clean.
  9. Cool: Remove the brioche from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • The dough should be soft but not sticky; adjust flour or milk slightly if needed during kneading.
  • Using room temperature ingredients helps the dough come together more easily.
  • For extra shine, brush the top with an egg wash before baking.
  • Store the bread wrapped tightly to keep it fresh longer.
