Description

Delicious Baked Churro Bites are a healthier twist on traditional fried churros. These bite-sized treats have a crispy exterior and soft, chewy interior, coated in cinnamon sugar for a sweet and irresistible snack or dessert.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (for rolling)
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon (for rolling)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease or line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine the water, butter, and 1 tablespoon of sugar. Bring to a boil over medium heat. Once it starts boiling, remove from the heat and stir in the flour, salt, and baking powder until a dough forms. Let the dough sit for 2-3 minutes to cool slightly.
  3. Add the egg and vanilla extract to the dough and stir vigorously until smooth and thick.
  4. Use a spoon or your hands to form small, 1-inch pieces of dough and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  5. Bake the churro bites for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown and slightly crisp on the outside.
  6. In a shallow bowl, combine granulated sugar and cinnamon for the coating.
  7. Once the churro bites are done baking, remove them from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes. While they’re still warm, roll them in the cinnamon-sugar mixture until fully coated.
  8. Serve warm and enjoy! Optionally, serve with chocolate or caramel dipping sauce for an extra indulgence.

Notes

  • For a chocolate dipping sauce, melt chocolate and heavy cream together until smooth.
  • Add 1/2 teaspoon of pumpkin pie spice to the cinnamon-sugar mixture for a fall twist.
  • For a gluten-free version, use a gluten-free flour blend as a substitute for all-purpose flour.
  • Try using coconut sugar for a more natural, caramel-like flavor in the coating.
