Description

Crispy baked mozzarella sticks are a healthier twist on the classic appetizer, coated in seasoned breadcrumbs and baked to golden perfection.


Ingredients

  • 12 mozzarella string cheese sticks
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 cup Italian-style breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • Cooking spray or olive oil spray

Instructions

  1. Cut the mozzarella sticks in half to make 24 shorter sticks. Freeze for at least 1 hour or until solid.
  2. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  3. Prepare three bowls: one with flour, one with beaten eggs mixed with water, and one with a mixture of breadcrumbs, Parmesan, garlic powder, and oregano.
  4. Dip each frozen cheese stick in flour, then egg, then breadcrumb mixture, pressing lightly to coat well.
  5. Place coated sticks on the prepared baking sheet. Lightly spray with cooking spray for crispiness.
  6. Bake for 8–10 minutes, turning halfway through, until golden and crisp. Do not overbake or cheese will leak out.
  7. Serve immediately with marinara sauce for dipping.

  • Freezing the cheese before baking is essential to prevent melting too quickly.
  • Double coat the sticks for extra crunch by repeating the egg and breadcrumb steps.
  • Use panko breadcrumbs for an even crispier texture.
