Instructions
- Brew Coffee: Brew 1 shot of espresso or ½ cup of strong brewed coffee and set it aside for later use.
- Heat Milk Mixture: In a small saucepan over medium heat, whisk together the milk, cocoa powder, sugar, and a pinch of salt until the mixture is warm and smooth. Be careful not to bring it to a boil.
- Add Flavorings: Stir in the vanilla extract and, if using, add 2–3 drops of red food coloring to achieve the classic red velvet color.
- Froth Milk: Froth the milk mixture using a frother or whisk vigorously to create a light foam, if desired.
- Assemble Latte: Pour the brewed espresso or coffee into a mug, then gently add the warm red velvet milk mixture on top.
- Add Toppings: Top your latte with whipped cream and garnish with a dusting of cocoa powder or red sprinkles for extra flair.
- Serve and Enjoy: Sip your cozy red velvet latte while warm and enjoy the comforting flavors.
Notes
- Dairy-Free: Use oat or almond milk along with coconut whipped cream for a dairy-free version.
- More Chocolate: Add 1 tbsp of chocolate chips to the milk mixture while heating for a richer chocolate flavor.
- Caffeine-Free: Use decaffeinated coffee or omit the coffee altogether for a pure cocoa version.
- Iced Variation: Chill both the coffee and milk mixture and serve over ice for a refreshing cold drink option.
