Description

Classic Buttermilk Batter Bread is a soft and tender loaf made without any kneading. This easy-to-make yeast bread has a slightly tangy flavor from the buttermilk and a beautifully golden crust, perfect for sandwiches or enjoying fresh with butter.

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 2½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2¼ tsp active dry yeast

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup warm buttermilk
  • 2 tbsp melted butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to prepare for baking the bread.
  2. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, mix together the all-purpose flour, sugar, salt, and active dry yeast to evenly distribute the yeast through the flour mixture.
  3. Add Wet Ingredients: Stir in the warm buttermilk and melted butter to the dry mixture until everything is just combined and forms a batter.
  4. Transfer to Pan: Pour and spread the batter evenly into a greased loaf pan, making sure the surface is smooth.
  5. Let Rise: Allow the batter to rise in the loaf pan for 20 to 30 minutes, or until it has puffed up slightly.
  6. Bake: Place the loaf pan into the preheated oven and bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until the bread turns golden brown on top and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  7. Optional Butter Finish: For a softer crust, brush the top of the hot bread with melted butter immediately after baking.

Notes

  • Brushing the top with melted butter after baking softens the crust and adds flavor.
  • Store the bread wrapped at room temperature and consume within 3 days for best freshness.
