Description
Classic Buttermilk Batter Bread is a soft and tender loaf made without any kneading. This easy-to-make yeast bread has a slightly tangy flavor from the buttermilk and a beautifully golden crust, perfect for sandwiches or enjoying fresh with butter.
Ingredients
Dry Ingredients
- 2½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 2¼ tsp active dry yeast
Wet Ingredients
- 1 cup warm buttermilk
- 2 tbsp melted butter
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to prepare for baking the bread.
- Combine Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, mix together the all-purpose flour, sugar, salt, and active dry yeast to evenly distribute the yeast through the flour mixture.
- Add Wet Ingredients: Stir in the warm buttermilk and melted butter to the dry mixture until everything is just combined and forms a batter.
- Transfer to Pan: Pour and spread the batter evenly into a greased loaf pan, making sure the surface is smooth.
- Let Rise: Allow the batter to rise in the loaf pan for 20 to 30 minutes, or until it has puffed up slightly.
- Bake: Place the loaf pan into the preheated oven and bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until the bread turns golden brown on top and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Optional Butter Finish: For a softer crust, brush the top of the hot bread with melted butter immediately after baking.
Notes
- Brushing the top with melted butter after baking softens the crust and adds flavor.
- Store the bread wrapped at room temperature and consume within 3 days for best freshness.
