Description

Soft and chewy British-style oat flapjacks coated with rich chocolate, offering an easy and indulgent snack or homemade gift perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Flapjack Base

  • 2 cups rolled oats
  • ½ cup butter
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup golden syrup or honey

Chocolate Topping

  • 1 cup chocolate chips or melted chocolate

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 325°F (160°C) to ensure it reaches the correct temperature for baking the flapjacks evenly.
  2. Melt Ingredients: In a saucepan over low heat, melt the butter together with the brown sugar and golden syrup or honey, stirring frequently until fully combined and smooth.
  3. Combine Oats: Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the rolled oats, mixing thoroughly so that all oats are coated with the syrup mixture.
  4. Press Mixture: Transfer the oat mixture into a baking pan and press it down firmly and evenly to create a compact base ready for baking.
  5. Bake the Flapjacks: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 20–25 minutes, or until the flapjacks are golden and set around the edges but still soft in the center.
  6. Cool Completely: Remove from the oven and allow the flapjacks to cool completely in the pan; this helps them firm up for easier slicing.
  7. Add Chocolate Topping: Once cooled, melt the chocolate chips if not melted already, then pour or spread the melted chocolate evenly over the top of the flapjacks.
  8. Chill and Slice: Place the pan in the refrigerator to chill until the chocolate is set, then cut into 12 bars and serve.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use dark chocolate instead of milk chocolate.
  • You can customize by adding nuts, raisins, or shredded coconut to the oat mixture before baking.
  • Ensure the flapjacks are completely cool before spreading the chocolate to prevent melting and mixing.
  • Store flapjacks in an airtight container in the fridge to keep them fresh and the chocolate firm.
