Description

Chili Tofu Stir-Fry: A Spicy Delight is a  flavorful dish featuring crispy tofu stir-fried with fresh vegetables in a spicy chili sauce. Perfect for those who love heat, this dish is savory, spicy, and satisfying — a great plant-based meal for any time of the day.

Ingredients

  • 14 oz firm tofu, drained and cubed
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (or sesame oil)
  • 1 bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 1 zucchini, sliced
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1-inch piece ginger, minced
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon chili paste or sambal oelek (adjust to heat preference)
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for extra heat)
  • Fresh cilantro, for garnish
  • Sesame seeds, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Press the tofu to remove excess moisture, then cut it into cubes. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
  2. Add tofu cubes to the skillet and cook for 6–8 minutes, turning occasionally until golden and crispy. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add a little more oil if needed and sauté onion, bell pepper, and zucchini for 5–7 minutes, until softened but still crisp.
  4. Add garlic and ginger to the vegetables and cook for another 1–2 minutes until fragrant.
  5. In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, rice vinegar, chili paste, hoisin sauce, and sesame oil.
  6. Add the cooked tofu back into the skillet along with the sauce. Stir well to coat the tofu and vegetables in the sauce and cook for an additional 2–3 minutes until heated through.
  7. If desired, sprinkle with red pepper flakes for extra heat.
  8. Serve the stir-fry over rice or noodles, garnished with fresh cilantro and sesame seeds.

Notes

  • For added crunch, you can toss in some chopped peanuts or cashews at the end.
  • If you prefer a milder dish, reduce the amount of chili paste or use a milder chili sauce.
  • To make it even spicier, add fresh chopped chilies or chili oil to the stir-fry.
