Description

A flavorful and hearty recipe for classic spaghetti bolognese that will become a family favorite. This dish features rich tomato sauce infused with herbs and spices, served over al dente spaghetti and topped with freshly grated Parmesan cheese.

Ingredients

For the Bolognese:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 carrot, finely chopped
  • 1 celery stalk, finely chopped
  • 1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1/2 cup red wine
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

For Serving:

  • 1 lb spaghetti
  • Freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • Fresh basil leaves, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Brown the Beef: In a large pot, brown the ground beef over medium heat until no longer pink. Drain any excess fat.
  2. Add Aromatics: Add the onion, garlic, carrot, and celery to the pot. Cook until vegetables are softened.
  3. Simmer the Sauce: Stir in the crushed tomatoes, beef broth, red wine, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper. Simmer for at least 30 minutes to allow flavors to meld.
  4. Cook the Spaghetti: Cook spaghetti according to package instructions until al dente. Drain.
  5. Serve: Spoon the bolognese sauce over the cooked spaghetti. Top with freshly grated Parmesan cheese and garnish with basil leaves. Enjoy!

Notes

  • For a vegetarian version, substitute the ground beef with lentils or mushrooms.
  • This dish tastes even better the next day as the flavors continue to develop.
