Description

Cheese Bread is a warm, savory delight that combines the richness of melted cheese with the comforting softness of freshly baked bread. Perfect as a snack, side dish, or standalone treat, this bread is sure to please cheese lovers and bread enthusiasts alike.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons)
  • 1 cup warm water (110°F/45°C)
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (or melted butter)
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or a blend of both)
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional, for added flavor)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder (optional, for extra flavor)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh herbs (like rosemary or thyme, optional for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine the warm water and sugar. Sprinkle the yeast over the top and let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center, add the yeast mixture and olive oil. Stir until the dough begins to form. Knead on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth.
  3. Place the dough in an oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth or plastic wrap, and let it rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  4. After the dough rises, punch it down and knead in the shredded cheese and garlic powder (if using). Shape the dough into a round or oval loaf or individual rolls, placing them on a greased or parchment-lined baking sheet. If using, sprinkle extra cheese on top.
  5. Cover and let the dough rise for another 30 minutes.
  6. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the bread for 25-30 minutes, until golden brown and hollow when tapped on the bottom. For extra color, broil for the last 1-2 minutes.
  7. Let the bread cool for 10 minutes before slicing. Garnish with fresh herbs and serve warm.

Notes

  • For a spicier bread, add finely chopped jalapeños or red pepper flakes to the dough.
  • Make it cheesier by adding extra cheese to the dough or on top during the second rise.
  • This bread can be made ahead. Let the dough rise in the fridge overnight, then bring it to room temperature and bake.
  • For a gluten-free version, use a gluten-free flour blend suitable for bread.
