Description

A savory quick bread loaded with sharp cheddar cheese and spicy jalapeños, delivering a perfect balance of heat and cheesy goodness. This cheddar jalapeño bread is easy to make and pairs wonderfully with soups, chili, or enjoyed on its own as a flavorful snack.

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Cheese and Jalapeños

  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 2 jalapeños, seeded and diced

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 1 large egg

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Set your oven temperature to 375°F (190°C) to prepare for baking the bread.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt until evenly combined.
  3. Add Cheese and Jalapeños: Stir the shredded cheddar cheese and diced jalapeños into the dry mixture, distributing them evenly throughout.
  4. Combine Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, melted butter, and egg until the mixture is smooth.
  5. Combine Wet and Dry Mixtures: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and gently fold together just until combined—avoid overmixing to keep the bread tender.
  6. Prepare Pan and Bake: Grease a loaf pan with butter or cooking spray, then pour the batter into it, smoothing the top evenly. Place the pan in the oven and bake for 40 to 45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  7. Cool and Serve: Remove the bread from the oven and allow it to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.

Notes

  • For milder heat, substitute fresh jalapeños with pickled jalapeños.
  • This bread is excellent for making savory sandwiches or toasting for an extra crunch.
  • Make sure to seed the jalapeños well if you prefer less spice.
  • Use sharp cheddar for a more pronounced cheese flavor.
  • Store leftovers wrapped tightly to keep the bread moist.
