Description
This Cheddar Beer Bread is a simple, no-yeast quick bread bursting with sharp cheddar cheese and a rich beer flavor. Its dense, buttery texture makes it an ideal side to soups, stews, chili, or perfect on its own with a bit of warm butter.
Ingredients
Dry Ingredients
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
Cheese
- 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
Wet Ingredients
- 12 oz beer (lager or pale ale, room temperature)
- ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted (plus more for brushing)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan thoroughly to prevent sticking.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, sugar, and optional garlic powder until evenly combined.
- Add Cheese: Stir in the shredded sharp cheddar cheese to coat it well with the dry mixture, helping it distribute evenly in the bread.
- Incorporate Beer: Pour in the room-temperature beer and gently fold the mixture just until combined; avoid overmixing to keep the bread tender.
- Transfer to Pan and Add Butter: Spoon the batter into the prepared loaf pan, spreading it out evenly. Then pour the melted butter over the top of the batter to add richness and help create a golden crust.
- Bake: Place the pan in the oven and bake for 40–45 minutes until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Cool and Serve: Let the bread cool for about 10 minutes in the pan. Remove from the pan and optionally brush with extra melted butter before slicing and serving warm.
Notes
- Use sharp or extra-sharp cheddar cheese for the best flavor impact.
- For added flavor variations, consider mixing in cooked bacon bits or chopped jalapeños.
- Store leftovers wrapped at room temperature for up to 2 days or refrigerate for up to 5 days.
- Reheat slices in the oven or toaster oven to restore texture and warmth before serving.
