Description

Warm, aromatic cardamom pairs beautifully with sweet orange in this tender, fragrant loaf—perfect for brunch or holiday gifting. This Cardamom Orange Bread combines the delicate spice with citrus zest, resulting in a moist, flavorful bread that is easy to prepare and sure to impress.

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 tsp ground cardamom
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • Pinch of salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk (or almond milk as a substitute)
  • 1/2 cup melted butter
  • 1 tbsp orange zest
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure it’s properly heated for baking the bread.
  2. Mix Wet Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, melted butter, milk, vanilla extract, and orange zest until well combined and smooth.
  3. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, sugar, ground cardamom, baking powder, and a pinch of salt to evenly distribute all the dry components.
  4. Fold Ingredients Together: Gradually incorporate the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients using a spatula, folding gently until just combined to avoid overmixing the batter which can make the bread tough.
  5. Prepare Baking Pan: Grease a loaf pan with butter or non-stick spray, then pour the batter evenly into the pan, smoothing out the top.
  6. Bake the Bread: Place the loaf pan in the preheated oven and bake for 40 to 45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean, indicating the bread is cooked through.
  7. Cool and Serve: Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely. Optionally, add an orange glaze over the top before serving for enhanced flavor.

Notes

  • Add orange glaze on top for extra flavor.
  • Can substitute almond milk for regular milk to make it dairy-free.
  • Ensure not to overmix batter to keep the bread tender and moist.
  • Use fresh orange zest for the best citrus aroma.
