Description

A tender, moist quick bread with juicy pears and a luscious caramel swirl running through each slice. A cozy, elegant loaf perfect for brunch, gifting, or enjoying with coffee.

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp ground nutmeg

Wet Ingredients:

  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup sour cream (or plain Greek yogurt)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Additional Ingredients:

  • 1 ½ cups ripe pears, peeled and diced (about 2 medium pears)
  • ½ cup thick caramel sauce (plus more for drizzling)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a 9×5-inch loaf pan with parchment paper.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  3. Cream Butter and Sugars: In a large bowl, cream butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add Wet Ingredients: Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in sour cream and vanilla.
  5. Combine Wet and Dry: Gently fold dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.
  6. Add Pears: Fold in diced pears.
  7. Layer Batter and Caramel: Pour half the batter into the prepared pan, drizzle half the caramel sauce, and swirl with a knife. Repeat with remaining batter and caramel.
  8. Bake: Bake for 55–65 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  9. Cool and Serve: Cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack. Drizzle with extra caramel before serving, if desired.

Notes

  • Bartlett or Bosc pears work especially well.
  • Make sure pears are ripe but still firm to avoid excess moisture.
  • Store covered at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for 1 week.
  • Freezer-friendly: Wrap cooled loaf tightly and freeze for up to 3 months.
