Ingredients
Dry Ingredients:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp salt

Wet Ingredients:
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- ½ cup brown sugar, packed
- 2 large eggs
- ½ cup sour cream (or plain Greek yogurt)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Additional Ingredients:
- 1 ½ cups ripe pears, peeled and diced (about 2 medium pears)
- ½ cup thick caramel sauce (plus more for drizzling)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a 9×5-inch loaf pan with parchment paper.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- Cream Butter and Sugars: In a large bowl, cream butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add Wet Ingredients: Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in sour cream and vanilla.
- Combine Wet and Dry: Gently fold dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.
- Add Pears: Fold in diced pears.
- Layer Batter and Caramel: Pour half the batter into the prepared pan, drizzle half the caramel sauce, and swirl with a knife. Repeat with remaining batter and caramel.
- Bake: Bake for 55–65 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Cool and Serve: Cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack. Drizzle with extra caramel before serving, if desired.
Notes
- Bartlett or Bosc pears work especially well.
- Make sure pears are ripe but still firm to avoid excess moisture.
- Store covered at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for 1 week.
- Freezer-friendly: Wrap cooled loaf tightly and freeze for up to 3 months.
