Perfect for a nutritious weeknight dinner, this stir-fry combines the richness of beef with vibrant vegetables in a perfectly balanced sauce.
Ingredients
Beef and Vegetables
- 1 pound flank steak, thinly sliced
- 2 cups broccoli florets
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon grated ginger
Sauce
- 1/3 cup soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1/2 cup beef broth
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
Cooking Oil
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
Instructions
- Prepare Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, brown sugar, cornstarch, and beef broth until smooth. Set aside to allow flavors to meld and the cornstarch to dissolve.
- Cook Beef: Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the thinly sliced beef and cook for 2–3 minutes until browned but not fully cooked through. Remove the beef from the pan and set aside.
- Sauté Vegetables: In the same skillet, add broccoli florets, minced garlic, and grated ginger. Stir-fry for 3–4 minutes until the broccoli becomes tender-crisp and the garlic and ginger are fragrant.
- Combine Beef and Vegetables: Return the cooked beef to the skillet with the vegetables, stirring to combine evenly.
- Add Sauce: Pour the prepared sauce over the beef and broccoli mixture. Stir continuously and cook for an additional 2–3 minutes until the sauce thickens and coats the ingredients evenly.
- Finish with Sesame Oil: Drizzle the sesame oil over the stir-fry and give it a final gentle toss to infuse the flavor before removing from heat.
- Serve: Serve the broccoli beef stir-fry hot over steamed rice or noodles for a complete meal.
Notes
- Slice beef thinly against the grain to ensure tenderness.
- Add additional vegetables such as carrots or snap peas for extra color and nutrition.
- Use low-sodium soy sauce to control salt levels if preferred.
