Description

This Biscuits and Gravy Casserole transforms the classic Southern comfort food of biscuits and gravy into a convenient and delicious breakfast casserole. Featuring fluffy refrigerated biscuits, creamy homemade sausage gravy, and the option of baked eggs and cheddar cheese, this dish is perfect for a hearty breakfast or brunch that’s easy to prepare and satisfying to eat.

Ingredients

Sausage Gravy

  • 1 lb breakfast sausage
  • 3 tbsp flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp garlic powder

Casserole Base

  • 1 can refrigerated biscuits

Optional Toppings

  • 46 eggs
  • Shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Cook the sausage: Heat a skillet over medium heat and cook the breakfast sausage until fully browned and crumbly, breaking it apart as it cooks.
  2. Make the gravy: Sprinkle the flour over the cooked sausage, stirring constantly and cooking for about 1 minute to eliminate the raw flour taste.
  3. Add milk and season: Slowly pour in the milk while stirring to create a smooth gravy. Continue stirring and cook until the gravy thickens. Season with black pepper and garlic powder to taste.
  4. Prepare the biscuits: Cut the refrigerated biscuits into quarters and spread them evenly in a greased 9×13 inch baking dish.
  5. Assemble the casserole: Pour the warm sausage gravy evenly over the biscuit pieces in the baking dish.
  6. Add optional eggs and cheese: If using, crack the eggs directly on top of the casserole and sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the surface.
  7. Bake: Place the casserole in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) and bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until the eggs are cooked through and the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Notes

  • For a crispier top, bake the biscuit quarters for 10 minutes before adding the gravy.
  • This casserole can be assembled in advance and baked when ready to serve.
