Description
A classic American beef meatloaf recipe made moist and flavorful with breadcrumbs, onion, and a tangy ketchup glaze. Perfect for comforting family dinners and easy meal prep.
Ingredients
Main Ingredients
- 2 pounds ground beef
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- Salt and pepper to taste
Glaze
- 1/3 cup ketchup
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon mustard
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure it is at the right temperature for baking the meatloaf evenly.
- Mix Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, finely chopped onion, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly to evenly distribute all ingredients for a flavorful loaf.
- Shape Meatloaf: Transfer the meat mixture to a baking dish and shape it into a loaf form, ensuring it is compact and even for uniform cooking.
- Prepare Glaze: In a small bowl, mix together the ketchup, brown sugar, and mustard to create a tangy glaze. Spread this glaze evenly over the top of the shaped meatloaf.
- Bake: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 55 to 65 minutes, or until the meatloaf is cooked through and reaches an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C).
- Rest: Remove the meatloaf from the oven and let it rest for 10 minutes before slicing. This allows the juices to redistribute, ensuring moist slices.
Notes
- For a lighter version, use half ground beef and half ground turkey or pork.
- Leftover meatloaf slices make excellent sandwiches for next-day meals.
