Description

A simple, easy-to-make homemade pizza dough recipe that yields a soft, chewy, and flavorful crust, perfect for any pizza topping.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water (110°F/45°C)
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast: In a small bowl, combine warm water, active dry yeast, and sugar. Stir to dissolve the sugar and let it sit for 5-10 minutes, or until foamy.
  2. Mix the dough: In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture and olive oil. Stir to form a dough.
  3. Knead the dough: Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Add flour if dough is too sticky.
  4. Let the dough rise: Grease a large bowl with olive oil, place the dough inside, and cover with a clean towel or plastic wrap. Let it rise in a warm place for 1 to 1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
  5. Shape the dough: Punch down the dough, divide it into two portions for two pizzas, or use it all for one large pizza. Roll out each portion to your desired thickness.
  6. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven while it preheats.
  7. Assemble the pizza: Add sauce, cheese, and toppings to the dough. Bake for 10-12 minutes until the crust is golden and the cheese is melted.
  8. Serve: Let the pizza cool slightly before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, mix dried herbs (oregano, basil, garlic powder) into the dough.
  • For a healthier crust, substitute half of the all-purpose flour with whole wheat flour.
  • For a stuffed crust, roll cheese into the edges before baking.
