Description
A simple, easy-to-make homemade pizza dough recipe that yields a soft, chewy, and flavorful crust, perfect for any pizza topping.
Ingredients
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups warm water (110°F/45°C)
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
Instructions
- Activate the yeast: In a small bowl, combine warm water, active dry yeast, and sugar. Stir to dissolve the sugar and let it sit for 5-10 minutes, or until foamy.
- Mix the dough: In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture and olive oil. Stir to form a dough.
- Knead the dough: Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Add flour if dough is too sticky.
- Let the dough rise: Grease a large bowl with olive oil, place the dough inside, and cover with a clean towel or plastic wrap. Let it rise in a warm place for 1 to 1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
- Shape the dough: Punch down the dough, divide it into two portions for two pizzas, or use it all for one large pizza. Roll out each portion to your desired thickness.
- Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven while it preheats.
- Assemble the pizza: Add sauce, cheese, and toppings to the dough. Bake for 10-12 minutes until the crust is golden and the cheese is melted.
- Serve: Let the pizza cool slightly before slicing and serving.
Notes
- For extra flavor, mix dried herbs (oregano, basil, garlic powder) into the dough.
- For a healthier crust, substitute half of the all-purpose flour with whole wheat flour.
- For a stuffed crust, roll cheese into the edges before baking.
