Description

A classic British comfort dish featuring juicy sausages served over creamy mashed potatoes and topped with a rich, savory onion gravy. Perfect for a hearty and satisfying meal.

Ingredients

Sausages and Mash

  • 6 sausages
  • 4 large potatoes, peeled and chopped
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Onion Gravy

  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 1 tbsp flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce

Instructions

  1. Boil Potatoes: Place peeled and chopped potatoes in a pot of boiling salted water and cook until tender, about 15-20 minutes. Drain well.
  2. Mash Potatoes: Mash the drained potatoes with butter and milk until smooth and creamy. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Set aside and keep warm.
  3. Cook Sausages: Heat a pan over medium heat and cook the sausages until browned on all sides and cooked through, about 12-15 minutes. Remove from the pan and keep warm.
  4. Sauté Onions: In the same pan, add oil and sauté the sliced onions over medium heat until they are soft and caramelized, about 8-10 minutes.
  5. Make Gravy: Stir in the flour with the onions and cook for 1-2 minutes to remove the raw flour taste. Gradually add the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce while stirring. Simmer until the gravy thickens, about 5 minutes.
  6. Serve: Serve the cooked sausages over a bed of mashed potatoes and generously pour the onion gravy on top. Enjoy your classic British bangers and mash!

Notes

  • Use high-quality sausages for the best flavor and texture.
  • Add a spoonful of mustard to the mashed potatoes for extra depth and tang.
  • If the gravy is too thick, adjust the consistency by adding more beef broth as needed.
